Hello everyone, Ruth here, your Integrative Psychotherapist at Dr Indra Functional Medicine Practice. Let’s talk about something that tends to creep in with the tinsel and mince pies: stress. Christmas is magical, yes, but it can also feel overwhelming. This year, how about a mindful Christmas instead?
Here’s a sprinkle of advice from me and my fabulous collaborative team to help you embrace a calmer, more joyful festive season.
Embrace a ‘Flawsome’ Christmas
Perfect Christmas? Bah Humbug! That’s so last year. This year, let’s go “flawsome” (yes, it’s a real word!). Flawsome means embracing the beauty in imperfection. Forget the pressure for perfection—no one’s expecting a movie set; they just want you. So drop the impossible standards, accept the messy moments, and focus on the love, laughter, and stories that make your Christmas yours.
Connection Over Perfection
Instead of chasing Pinterest-perfect parties, lean into meaningful moments. Fully listen and be present with loved ones. Turn off the multitasking, and create those connections that truly matter.
Smaller is Smarter
Feeling overwhelmed by a never-ending to-do list? Break it down. Tackle smaller, manageable tasks to keep stress at bay and energy levels up.
Lean on Your Team
Remember, it’s OK to ask for and accept help. Share the load—whether that’s potluck-style meals or dividing up tasks. Teamwork isn’t just practical; it’s a wonderful way to create deeper bonds with family and friends.
Rethink Traditions
Do your Christmas traditions spark joy—or stress? Don’t be afraid to mix things up! If turkey dinners feel more chore than cheer, go rogue—buffets, brunch, or curry might be just the ticket. Traditions evolve, and that’s OK!
Saying “No” is a Christmas Gift to Yourself
You don’t have to say “yes” to everything and everyone. Be mindful of what aligns with your energy and joy. A polite “no” can be the most powerful act of self-care.
The Gift of Self-Care
Christmas is busy, but don’t forget yourself. Pencil in downtime—whether it’s a quiet walk, a festive film under a blanket, or a long, relaxing bath. You deserve it.
Let the Lightness In
Have fun. Laugh. Play games. Be silly. One day of indulgence doesn’t define your health journey. Guilt is so overrated!
Remember, it’s the little, mindful moments that make the season truly magical. Wishing you all the calm, connection, and joy your heart desires.
With love,
Ruth xx
