Unlocking the Joy of Movement: Introducing Dance Medicine

Now, we don’t know about you, but there’s something absolutely magical about dancing, isn’t there? It’s that feeling of letting go, losing yourself in the rhythm, and just being present in the moment. Well, today we want to chat with you about something truly transformative that has been gaining traction in the wellness world – Dance Medicine.

So, what is Dance Medicine, you ask?

It’s not just a fun night out at the disco or a cheeky boogie in your kitchen (though we’re all for that!). Dance Medicine is a mindful movement meditation that brings together free-form physical movement, emotional release, and spiritual awakening. You don’t need to be a trained dancer to reap the benefits; all you need is an open heart and a willingness to let loose!

Imagine this: You step into a space filled with rhythmic music, and as you surrender to the beat, you allow your body to move freely. It’s a beautiful practice that encourages you to connect with your authentic self, find your joy, and let go of the emotional baggage we often carry.

To find out more, we’ve been chatting to the incredible Dr. Indika, more affectionately known as ‘the Joyful Dancing Doctor’. With a journey that many of our own practitioners can relate to, she’s on a mission to empower women through the magic of dance medicine.

Meet Dr Indika

Dr. Indika spent many years dedicated to the NHS as a GP, providing compassionate care to her patients. However, she started feeling disheartened as she witnessed the growing number of people struggling with their health, both mentally and physically. Despite her high-quality training, traditional medicine was falling short, and the ‘new-normal’ of sub-optimal health wasn’t sitting well with her.

After facing her own health struggles and trying the conventional route, Dr. Indika discovered the transformative power of Functional Medicine through her journey of nourishing her daughter. This new approach opened her eyes to a world beyond nutrition and lifestyle choices. It ignited a passion within her to heal not just herself but also her patients, leading her to incorporate elements of Functional Medicine into her practice.

Now she’s here, helping women live their true selves with an in-depth, holistic approach that bridges modern science and ancient wisdom. And yes, it includes the joy of dancing!

We asked Dr Indika a few questions about her journey and the power of dance medicine. Here’s what she had to say:

How do you define Dance Medicine?

“Dance medicine is not the same as casual ‘kitchen’ dancing. It’s a mindful movement meditation, and you don’t need to be a ‘dancer’ to benefit from it. It combines free-form physical movement, emotional release, and spiritual awakening to rhythmic music and powerful guidance. It’s all about connecting with your body through movement and rhythm, regardless of whether you consider yourself a dancer or not. It’s about the joy of expression!”

What transformations have you seen in women who embrace Dance Medicine?

“The women I’ve supported through this practice often experience profound changes. They find happiness, balance stress and hormones, and tap into their authentic selves. It’s a beautiful journey of self-discovery and empowerment. This isn’t just my belief; it’s been confirmed by countless testimonials from women I’ve supported over the years.”

What’s the Power Portal?

“I’m really excited to introduce the Power Portal, a space where women can dedicate just 15 minutes a day to their personal growth. It’s about creating a supportive environment to cleanse mentally and emotionally, helping them feel lighter and more motivated. It’s a chance to truly enjoy the journey of life! Imagine experiencing a mental and emotional cleanse regularly, without having to say a word. This leaves you feeling lighter, more motivated, and better equipped to tackle challenges, make choices that align with your best self, and genuinely feel like everything is possible.”

Our very own Dr Indra has had her own positive experiences with dance medicine.

“I have experienced this form of dance and have found it an amazing experience. A short little time to dance allows me to have time for myself to express and release. I love that some of our patients have experienced this and are loving it. Let me know what you all think!”
